How to put a PDF planner or notebook on your Kindle Scribe

A PDF planner goes on the Kindle Scribe as a document you can write on, not as a notebook template. The way you send it matters: Send to Kindle keeps it writable, while a USB copy or a converted file does not. This works on every Kindle Scribe generation.

1. Pick the right file

The Kindle Scribe editions keep every link and button at least 10 mm from the top edge and from the left and right edges. Taps very close to the top and right edges of the screen have been reported to be missed after a firmware update, so this margin keeps them out of that zone. Then choose the edition and the hand:

These editions are for the planner. Notebook files are named by paper and hand instead, for example dot_right or meeting_left.

2. Copy it to your tablet

1. Download the PDF and unzip it if it came in a zip file.
2. Send it with Amazon's Send to Kindle: the web page, the desktop or phone app, or email to your Kindle address.
3. If you email it, do not write convert in the subject. That turns the PDF into a Kindle book and the pages and links are lost.

Why not USB?

Amazon's help says the Kindle Scribe doesn't support writing directly on PDF pages loaded by USB-C. Send to Kindle keeps the file writable.

3. Write and follow links

1. Open the planner from your Library.
2. Write with the pen.
3. Tap links with a finger, or choose the pointer, the hand tool, first. The pen writes on buttons instead of following them.

In the planner, the bar at the top takes you up a level: Index, Year, Quarter, Month, Week. The tabs on the side open each month, and ‹ › flip to the previous or next day, week or month.

Keep the original PDF on your computer as a clean backup. To start over, or to begin a fresh notebook, copy it again under a new name.

4. If something looks wrong

A link does nothing, or my pen draws on the button.

Tap with a finger, or select the pointer, the hand tool, first. The pen writes.

I can't write on the pages.

The file was probably copied by USB. Send it again with Send to Kindle, by web, app or email.

It opens as a book with reflowed text.

It was converted on the way, usually because the email subject said convert. Send it again with an empty subject or any other subject.

Why are the margins wider than in other planners?

Use the _left version: tabs on the left, and the right side has nothing to tap.

I'd like Monday, or Sunday, as the first day of the week.

Use another planner edition: _intl_ and _intl12_ start on Monday, with a 24- or 12-hour clock; _us_ starts on Sunday.
