How to put a PDF planner or notebook on your Lenovo
The Lenovo Smart Paper opens PDFs in its Library and lets you write on them with its Wacom pen. It has no Google Play, so Xodo is not an option, and following links in its reader is not documented. Test the links on the free sample before you buy.
1. Pick the right file
| Model | Screen | Edition |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Paper | 10.3" · 1404×1872 · 3:4 | Large 3:4 |
The Smart Paper has a 10.3 inch 3:4 screen, 1404 by 1872 pixels, so it takes the Large layout and the page fills the screen.
Then choose the edition and the hand:
| In the file name | Means |
|---|---|
_us_ | Weeks start on Sunday · 12-hour schedule, 9 am · dates like March 15, 2027 · US week numbers |
_intl_ | Weeks start on Monday · 24-hour schedule, 09:00 · dates like 15 March 2027 · ISO week numbers |
_intl12_ | Weeks start on Monday · 12-hour schedule, 9 am · dates like 15 March 2027 · ISO week numbers |
_right | Right-handed: tabs on the right edge, nothing to tap on the left side |
_left | Left-handed: everything mirrored, tabs on the left edge |
These editions are for the planner. Notebook files are named by paper and hand instead, for example dot_right or meeting_left.
2. Copy it to your tablet
By USB
- Download the file and unzip it if it came in a zip file.
- Connect the Smart Paper to your computer with a USB cable and choose File Transfer on the tablet.
- Copy the PDF to the tablet. Imported documents appear in the Library.
By Google Drive
- Put the PDF in your Google Drive.
- On the Smart Paper, open Google Drive from the apps and sign in.
- Tap the file to download it to the tablet.
Lenovo's Smart Paper phone app shows the files on your tablet once you sign in with your Lenovo ID. Pocket-lint noted that this sync may carry a subscription cost.
3. Open it and follow the links
- Tap Library and open the planner.
- Tap a link with a finger and see whether the page changes.
- If links do not respond, use the overview of all pages to jump to a page, and the bookmarks for the pages you use most.
The Smart Paper runs Android 11 without Google Play, so other PDF apps cannot be installed. That leaves Lenovo's reader, and nobody documents how it handles links inside a PDF.
4. Write on the pages
Lenovo's user guide says that in reading mode you add notes to a book with the Lenovo Smart Paper pen, the same way as in a notebook. The pen is Wacom EMR, and ewritable lists nine brush types, from ballpoint and pencil to marker and highlighter.
What to check in the free sample
- The page fills the screen with at most thin bars, and the smallest text is easy to read.
- A tap on a link, such as a date or a button in the top bar, jumps to its page.
- The pen writes on the page, and the ink is still there after you close the file and open it again.
If all three work, the full planner will behave the same way, because it is built from the same pages.
Keep the original PDF on your computer as a clean backup. To start over, or to begin a fresh notebook, copy it again under a new name.
5. If something looks wrong
- A link does nothing.
- Tap with a finger instead of the pen. If links still do not respond, the reader does not follow them: use the page overview and bookmarks, or write to us before you buy.
- I want to keep a copy with my notes.
- From the reading mode, share the file by email or to Google Drive. Lenovo's guide lists both.
- There are white bars around the page.
- Use the Large 3:4 files: the Smart Paper screen is 3:4.
- The tabs are under my hand, or under the toolbar.
- Switch between the
_rightand_leftversions. The side opposite the tabs never has anything to tap. - I'd like Monday, or Sunday, as the first day of the week.
- Use another planner edition:
_intl_and_intl12_start on Monday, with a 24- or 12-hour clock;_us_starts on Sunday.
6. How sure we are
Every model gets one of these labels, based on what owners, the maker and established reviewers have published. Nothing here is a guess dressed up as a test.
