Supernote Nomad planner and templates (compact 3:4)
The Supernote Nomad has the same 3:4 shape as the larger Manta, so almost any 3:4 planner opens on it without white bars. Shape is not the problem. Size is. This article explains what happens to a full-size page on the 7.8 inch screen, what a compact layout changes, and how to set up a planner or your own page templates on the Nomad.
The Nomad screen in numbers
Supernote's Nomad product page gives a 7.8 inch screen of 1404 by 1872 pixels, at 300 pixels per inch. That is a 3:4 portrait shape, the same as the 10.7 inch Manta, the reMarkable 2 and most Boox tablets. So a planner made for those tablets fits the Nomad exactly, edge to edge.
It also means the page is scaled down. A page drawn for the 10.7 inch Manta comes out at about 73 percent of its size on the Nomad. A writing line that measures about 7.7 mm on the Manta becomes about 5.6 mm, and a 6 mm button becomes about 4.4 mm. Labels that were easy to read drop below a comfortable size, and the space for handwriting shrinks, although a pen line on a small screen is no thinner than on a large one.
What a compact layout changes
A compact layout is not a smaller copy. It is the same planner redrawn for a 7.8 inch page, so that the page and the screen are the same physical size and 1 mm on the page is 1 mm on the glass. In the Graphite Compact 3:4 layout that means:
- Text about 14 percent larger than on a scaled-down large page, so labels stay readable.
- Writing lines 6.7 mm apart, measured on the Nomad's own screen.
- Links that keep their size: none smaller than 3.5 mm, navigation buttons at least 6 mm.
- Less on a page where it would be cramped. The year at a glance takes 2 pages instead of 1.
The content is the same as in the large layout: 640 pages from 1 October 2026 to 31 December 2027, with day, week, month, quarter and year pages, a habit tracker and a task list for every month, projects and notes. Each file is about 1.9 MB.
A planner as a PDF: MyStyle or Document
As on every Supernote, a PDF on the Nomad has two possible homes. Copy the file by USB, with the Supernote Partner app or through Supernote Cloud, then choose the folder.
- Document folder. The planner opens as a PDF document, exactly as drawn. Write with the pen, and follow links with a fingertip, or with the pen after choosing the text-selection tool, which Supernote made possible in software 3.23.32 in March 2025.
- MyStyle folder. The PDF becomes material for note templates. A Nomad owner reported that on the current stable software a planner copied there is imported as a note template with working links and all the note features. It is an owner's report rather than a documented feature, so try it with a sample first.
Supernote's Use PDFs as Templates article sets one firm limit: a PDF cannot be the default template for new notebooks, because that might slow down creating them. The longer comparison of the two folders is in Supernote templates: PDF planners on the Manta and Nomad.
Your own page templates on the Nomad
For a single page design, such as a lined page with your own margin or a meeting sheet, an image template is often simpler than a PDF. Supernote's article How to Create a Custom Note Template Using Images gives the rules for the Nomad: a PNG, JPG, JPEG or WEBP image of 1404 by 1872 pixels, with no special characters in the file name, copied into the MyStyle folder. It then appears among the custom templates when you create a note or change the template of a page.
Two tips for image templates on this screen. Draw lines darker than feels natural, because a pale grey that looks fine on a monitor can disappear on e-ink; the 5 mm dot grid of the Graphite E-ink Paper Pack, for example, is printed at 45 percent black. And remember that an image template is a background with no links: it suits pages you fill in where they are, not a planner you move around in.
The toolbar on a small screen
The Supernote toolbar can sit on either side of the screen. On 7.8 inches it covers a larger share of the page, so it matters even more that nothing tappable sits underneath. Graphite files keep a strip on the toolbar side free of links, about 7 percent of the page width, and the left-handed files move the tabs to the left and the free strip to the right. The article on left-handed planners explains how to match the file to your hand.
Nomad or Manta file?
If you own both tablets, use Large 3:4 on the Manta and Compact 3:4 on the Nomad. In the Supernote edition of the Graphite planner they come in two separate zip files, one per model, so there is no guessing. The tablet comparison lists every model with its layout.
Troubleshooting
- The text looks tiny and the rows are narrow.
- You are probably using a large 3:4 file. Use the Compact 3:4 file from the Nomad zip.
- My image template looks blurred or stretched.
- Make it exactly 1404 by 1872 pixels, the size of the Nomad screen.
- The pen draws on a link.
- Tap with a finger, or in the Document folder choose the text-selection tool and tap with the pen.
- My PDF is missing from the Customization list.
- It has to be in the MyStyle folder.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I use a Manta planner on the Nomad?
- Yes, both screens are 3:4, so it fits. But every line and button shrinks to about 73 percent. A compact 3:4 layout is redrawn for the 7.8 inch screen instead.
- What size should a Nomad image template be?
- Supernote's help gives 1404 by 1872 pixels, as a PNG, JPG, JPEG or WEBP file in the MyStyle folder, with no special characters in the file name.
- Do links work on the Nomad?
- Yes. In a PDF in the Document folder, tap them with a finger, or with the pen using the text-selection tool on software 3.23.32 or later.
