How to choose a 2027 planner for reMarkable, Kindle Scribe, Supernote or Boox

A 2027 planner for an e-ink tablet is a PDF, so the usual questions about paper planners still apply, plus a few that only matter on a screen. This article compares the main layout types plainly, with the trade-offs of each, and ends with a checklist to run on any sample before you pay.

Dated or undated

A dated planner has every day already printed. Its month pages link to the right weeks and days, so you can reach today in two taps, and a good one starts before January so you can begin in the autumn. The cost: it runs between fixed dates, and pages for the days you skip stay empty.

An undated notebook gives you sections and pages that you date yourself. You can start on any day, nothing is wasted and it never goes out of date. The cost: there is no calendar to tap. You find things through a section index rather than by date.

Many people use both: a dated planner for time and tasks, an undated notebook for notes and projects. On a tablet that costs nothing extra in weight.

Daily, weekly or one page a day

The layout type decides how many pages the file has, and that decides how it feels to use. The figures below come from our own files, as examples of the scale.

TypePagesGood forWatch for
Daily planner with scheduleAbout 640 for 15 monthsAppointments, tasks and notes every dayThe most pages and the biggest file
Weekly plannerAbout 185 for 15 monthsSeeing the whole week at onceLittle room on a busy day
One page a day journal380 for 2027Reflection and a record of each dayNo hourly schedule

A quick way to decide: count how many lines you write on a busy day. If they fit in a column of a week page, a weekly planner keeps the overview on one screen and the file light. If they don't, you need daily pages.

File size and speed on e-ink

An e-ink tablet has a slower processor than a phone, and a planner can run to hundreds of pages. Two things keep it quick: pages drawn as vectors rather than images, and a sensible number of links on each page.

In a vector PDF, lines and text are stored as drawing instructions. In an image-based PDF, each page is a picture. The same pages take far more space as pictures, and the tablet has more to load each time you turn or jump. For scale, the Graphite planner, 640 vector pages with about 25 links each, is 1.6 to 2.0 MB; the weekly planner is 0.6 to 0.8 MB; the notebook about 0.3 MB.

Size also runs into hard limits. Amazon's Send PDF, EPUB and Other Files to Your Kindle page gives 50 MB for email and 200 MB for the web. reMarkable's USB web interface takes files up to 100 MB. And Supernote's Use PDFs as Templates article says a PDF can't be the default template because it might slow down creating notebooks, a reminder that heavy PDFs cost time on these devices.

Speed also depends on the tablet and its software version. A sample on your own tablet tells you more than any number: turn ten pages, jump from a month to a day, and see if you would be happy doing that every morning.

What to check before you buy

  1. A layout for your screen shape and size: Large 3:4, a Compact 3:4 for 7 to 7.8 inch screens, or 9:16 for the Paper Pro Move.
  2. A free sample in that layout, so you can run a three-tap test on your own tablet.
  3. How the links were checked, with a number or a method rather than a promise.
  4. A left-handed version if you need one, and nothing tappable under the toolbar.
  5. Week start and clock: Sunday or Monday, 12-hour or 24-hour, and the date format you are used to.
  6. On the Kindle Scribe, links kept clear of the top and side edges.
  7. The dates covered: when the planner starts and when it ends.
  8. Public holidays. Printed holidays only fit one country; the Graphite planner prints none, so it works anywhere and you add your own.
  9. The licence. Personal use on all your own devices is normal, including printing for yourself.

When a planner is the wrong choice

If you already know you only write a few lines a week, a full daily planner is mostly empty pages to scroll past; a weekly planner or a notebook will serve you better. If you mainly want a habit tracker or a journal, a dedicated file is lighter than a planner with those pages tucked inside. And if your tablet is not in the list a seller supports, test the sample before anything else.

Frequently asked questions

Is a daily or a weekly planner better on an e-ink tablet?
Neither in general. A daily planner gives every day a full page and has about 640 pages; a weekly one shows the week at once in about 185 pages and is lighter. Count how much you write on a busy day.
Does file size matter on an e-ink tablet?
Yes. Vector PDFs of a few MB open and jump faster than image-based ones, and large files can hit transfer limits, such as 50 MB for Send to Kindle by email.
When should a 2027 planner start?
If you want to begin before New Year, choose one that starts in the autumn of 2026. The Graphite planner runs from 1 October 2026 to 31 December 2027.
