How to put a PDF planner or notebook on your Huawei

The Huawei MatePad Paper lets you write directly on a PDF with the M-Pencil. It runs HarmonyOS without Google Play, and following links in its reader is not documented, so open the free sample on it before you buy.

1. Pick the right file

ModelScreenEdition
MatePad Paper10.3" · 1404×1872 · 3:4Large 3:4

The MatePad Paper has a 10.3 inch 3:4 screen, 1404 by 1872 pixels, so it takes the Large layout and the page fills the screen.

Then choose the edition and the hand:

In the file nameMeans
_us_Weeks start on Sunday · 12-hour schedule, 9 am · dates like March 15, 2027 · US week numbers
_intl_Weeks start on Monday · 24-hour schedule, 09:00 · dates like 15 March 2027 · ISO week numbers
_intl12_Weeks start on Monday · 12-hour schedule, 9 am · dates like 15 March 2027 · ISO week numbers
_rightRight-handed: tabs on the right edge, nothing to tap on the left side
_leftLeft-handed: everything mirrored, tabs on the left edge

These editions are for the planner. Notebook files are named by paper and hand instead, for example dot_right or meeting_left.

2. Copy it to your tablet

  1. Download the file and unzip it if it came in a zip file.
  2. Connect the MatePad Paper to your computer by USB. Good e-Reader notes that it shows up as a USB drive.
  3. Copy the PDF to the tablet.

With Huawei laptops, tablets and phones, Huawei Share can send the file instead.

3. Open it and follow the links

  1. Open the PDF in Huawei's reader.
  2. Tap a link with a finger and see whether the page changes.
  3. If links do not respond, the planner still works page by page, only more slowly. Decide with the sample before you buy.

The tablet has no Google Play. Good e-Reader notes that APK files can be installed with the built-in package installer, so Xodo could only be sideloaded, which we do not cover here.

4. Write on the pages

Good e-Reader describes editing the PDF directly with the M-Pencil, second generation, and even showing two PDF pages side by side. The M-Pencil connects by Bluetooth and needs charging before it works.

What to check in the free sample

  1. The page fills the screen with at most thin bars, and the smallest text is easy to read.
  2. A tap on a link, such as a date or a button in the top bar, jumps to its page.
  3. The pen writes on the page, and the ink is still there after you close the file and open it again.

If all three work, the full planner will behave the same way, because it is built from the same pages.

Keep the original PDF on your computer as a clean backup. To start over, or to begin a fresh notebook, copy it again under a new name.

5. If something looks wrong

A link does nothing.
Tap with a finger instead of the M-Pencil. If links still do not respond, the reader does not follow them on your software version.
The pen does not write.
Charge the M-Pencil and check that it is connected by Bluetooth.
There are white bars around the page.
Use the Large 3:4 files: the MatePad Paper screen is 3:4.
Can I print it?
Yes, for your own personal use. Pages are sized for screens, so choose fit to page when printing.
The tabs are under my hand, or under the toolbar.
Switch between the _right and _left versions. The side opposite the tabs never has anything to tap.
I'd like Monday, or Sunday, as the first day of the week.
Use another planner edition: _intl_ and _intl12_ start on Monday, with a 24- or 12-hour clock; _us_ starts on Sunday.

6. How sure we are

Every model gets one of these labels, based on what owners, the maker and established reviewers have published. Nothing here is a guess dressed up as a test.
