How to put a PDF planner or notebook on your reMarkable

A PDF planner or notebook goes on a reMarkable as a document, not through the template menu. You copy the PDF once, then write on its pages with the Marker and tap its links with a finger. This works on the reMarkable 2, Paper Pure, Paper Pro and Paper Pro Move, with software 3.3 or later.

1. Pick the right file

Your reMarkableGraphite layoutSample file
reMarkable 2, Paper Pure, Paper ProLarge 3:4Graphite-2027-FREE-SAMPLE_large.pdf
Paper Pro MoveMove 9:16, drawn for the 7.3" screenGraphite-2027-FREE-SAMPLE_move.pdf

A layout made for another screen shape shows white bars or a shrunken page, so match the layout to your tablet. Then choose the edition and the hand:

In the file nameMeans
_us_Weeks start on Sunday · 12-hour schedule, 9 am · dates like March 15, 2027 · US week numbers
_intl_Weeks start on Monday · 24-hour schedule, 09:00 · dates like 15 March 2027 · ISO week numbers
_intl12_Weeks start on Monday · 12-hour schedule, 9 am · dates like 15 March 2027 · ISO week numbers
_rightRight-handed: tabs on the right edge, nothing to tap on the left side
_leftLeft-handed: everything mirrored, tabs on the left edge

These editions are for the planner. Notebook files are named by paper and hand instead, for example dot_right or meeting_left.

2. Copy it to your tablet

  1. Download the PDF to your computer or phone and unzip it if it came in a zip file.
  2. Open the reMarkable desktop app or mobile app and drag the PDF into it. It syncs to the tablet.
  3. Or plug the tablet into your computer by USB and use its USB web interface to upload the file.

3. Write and follow links

  1. On the tablet, open the file from My files.
  2. Write with the Marker on any page.
  3. Tap links with a finger. The Marker only writes, so tapping a button with it draws a mark instead.
  4. Close the toolbar to see the whole page. Graphite files keep nothing tappable under the toolbar, so opening it never covers a button.

In the planner, the bar at the top takes you up a level: Index, Year, Quarter, Month, Week. The tabs on the side open each month, and ‹ › flip to the previous or next day, week or month.

Keep the original PDF on your computer as a clean backup. To start over, or to begin a fresh notebook, copy it again under a new name.

4. If something looks wrong

A link does nothing, or my Marker draws on the button.
Tap with a finger: the Marker writes and the finger navigates. If links never respond, check for a reMarkable software update; version 3.3 or later is needed.
There are white bars around the page, or the page looks small.
You are using a layout for a different screen shape. Use Large 3:4 on the reMarkable 2 and Paper Pro, and Move 9:16 on the Paper Pro Move.
Why is there an empty strip down one side?
That is the toolbar side. Nothing tappable is placed there, so the toolbar never covers a button.
The tabs are under my hand.
Use the _left version: tabs on the left, toolbar side on the right.
The text looks small on my Move.
Use the main 9:16 files, not the Move Classic ones. The main Move layout has no text below 8 pt.
I'd like Monday, or Sunday, as the first day of the week.
Use another planner edition: _intl_ and _intl12_ start on Monday, with a 24- or 12-hour clock; _us_ starts on Sunday.
