Supernote templates: PDF planners on the Manta and Nomad

A Supernote gives a PDF two possible homes. In the MyStyle folder it becomes material for note templates; in the Document folder it stays a PDF. Both can hold a planner, but they behave differently when you write, tap and organise. This article covers the Manta and the Nomad.

Two folders, two kinds of file

A Supernote works with two kinds of file. A note is Supernote's own format, with layers, headings, links you create yourself and the full set of pen tools. A document is a PDF or EPUB that you read and write on. The folder you copy a PDF into decides which of the two it turns into.

MyStyle: PDF pages as note templates

Supernote's help article Use PDFs as Templates sets out the basics. Putting the PDF in the MyStyle folder is the prerequisite. Then, inside a notebook, open the More menu, go to Templates, then Customization, pick the PDF, select one or more page thumbnails and tap Apply as Template. You can do the same from the Pages overview to change several pages at once, and PDFs in a subfolder of MyStyle work too.

The same article gives one firm limit: a PDF cannot be the default template for new notebooks, because that might slow down creating them. Applying pages by hand also suits a single page design, such as a daily sheet, better than a planner of 640 dated pages.

For a whole planner, a Supernote Nomad owner reported that on the current stable software a PDF copied into MyStyle is imported as a note template with working links and all the note features. That is the route our setup guide recommends, with one caveat: it is an owner's report, not a documented feature, so try it with a sample before you copy a full year.

Document folder: the planner stays a PDF

Copy the PDF into the Document folder instead and it opens as a document, exactly as it was drawn. You write on the pages with the pen, and the planner remains a single file that you can copy back to a computer at any time.

Links in a PDF document respond to a finger tap. You can also tap them with the pen once you select the text-selection tool on the toolbar: Supernote fixed pen taps on links in software 3.23.32, released in March 2025. Copying the file

Download the PDF and unzip it if it came in a zip file.
Copy it to the tablet by USB, with the Supernote Partner app or through Supernote Cloud.
Put it in MyStyle if you want note templates, or in Document if you want a PDF document.

Which layout for the Manta and the Nomad

Both screens are 3:4, so either file fits without white bars. The difference is size. A page drawn for the 10.7 inch Manta, shown on the 7.8 inch Nomad, shrinks every line and every button to about 73 percent. The Compact layout redraws the pages for the smaller screen instead, with bigger text and wider rows.

Links: what to expect

In a PDF document, links are the planner's own: tap a month tab and you land on that month.
Notes also have a link feature of their own, which you draw yourself to point at a page, a file or a web page. It is separate from the links printed into a planner.
The toolbar can sit on either side. Put it on the side away from the month tabs. In Graphite files that side never has anything to tap, and the right- and left-handed files swap sides.

Troubleshooting

The pen draws on the buttons.: Tap with a finger. In a PDF document you can also select the text-selection tool and tap with the pen.
My PDF is not in the Customization list.: It has to be in the MyStyle folder. Search for it by file name, or use Select from MyStyle.
There are white bars, or the text is tiny on the Nomad.: Use Large 3:4 on the Manta and Compact 3:4 on the Nomad. In the Supernote edition they come in separate zip files.
The tabs are under my hand or under the toolbar.: Switch between the right- and left-handed files.
